Create posts in bulk

Bulk create is a table where each row is one post. Upload a batch of media, set the channels, captions and dates across all the rows at once, and save. Planoly turns every row into a draft.

Before you start

Bulk create only ever saves drafts. Nothing you do in the table schedules a post, including the dates you put on the rows. Open a draft afterwards to schedule it.

On a free plan a workspace can create 10 posts a month, and bulk create draws on the same allowance. If the rows you are about to save would go over it, Planoly stops the save before anything is written and offers the upgrade. See what the free plan includes.

Three of the media sources inside bulk create — Stock Media, Media Library, and Canva — need a paid plan of their own. Uploading files, Dropbox, and Google Drive do not.

Open bulk create

Select the caret beside Create Post and choose Bulk create. The table opens full screen and empty.

Add media

The empty table shows a dropzone. Select Click to upload or drag files onto it. It accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images, and MP4, MOV, AVI and WebM video.

The line under the dropzone reads ".jpg, .jpeg, .png, .mov, .mp3". Go by the list above instead: GIF, WebP, MP4, AVI and WebM all upload, and audio files do not.

Under the dropzone are the other sources: Stock Media and Media Library, then Dropbox, Google Drive and Canva under or import from. Going out to Canva, Dropbox or Google Drive keeps the rows you have already built; a Canva design comes back as a new row. The Canva canvas in bulk create is always 1080 × 1080, whichever channels the row is for.

One file makes one row. The footer counts what you have added as N of 20 media uploaded, and 20 is the cap for a session. Once the table has rows, Add media in the footer adds more, up to what is left.

What one row holds

Each row is one post, with five columns.

New rows start with no channels at all, and a row with no channel cannot be saved. Add channels on the row opens the picker; Bulk settings above the table is the faster way.

Drag a row by the handle on its right to move it. Create copy duplicates a row with its media, caption, channels and date. Delete removes it.

Bulk settings sits above the table and writes into the rows.

• Social channel — the picker starts with every channel in your workspace already chosen. Remove the ones you do not want, then select Apply to all.
• Caption — type into the box and select Apply to all. Rows whose channels do not take a caption are skipped.
• Select date & time for all — puts one date and time on every row.
• Interval dates — spaces the rows out instead.

Tick some rows first and all four touch only those rows. The date picker and both Apply buttons change to read selected while a selection is live. Applying channels or a caption replaces what is on the row rather than merging with it.

Space the rows out with Interval dates

Interval dates opens its own view. Pick Select start date and time, then an interval: 7 days, 2 days, 1 day, 4 hours, or Custom for a number of hours, days, weeks or months. The list below shows the dates each row will get. Select Apply interval dates to write them into the table.

The first row takes the start date, and each row after it is one interval later.

Merge rows into a carousel

Tick two or more rows. The footer is replaced by a selection bar reading N rows selected, with Merge into carousel and Delete selected. Select Merge into carousel. Their media is concatenated in the order the rows are in, their captions are joined with |, their channels are pooled, and the earliest of their dates is kept.

Edit order on a merged row opens the carousel on its own screen. Drag the tiles to reorder them, remove one with the X in its corner, and select Done. A post has to keep at least one file, so the last one cannot be removed. Unmerge splits the row back into one row per file, each keeping the caption, channels and date.

Not every channel takes a carousel. YouTube and Pinterest are single-asset on every post type, as are Instagram Reels and Stories and Facebook Reels and Stories. A row with more than one file and one of those channels on it cannot be saved, and the channel's badge carries an error reading Doesn't support carousels. Remove the channel from the row, or unmerge the row, to save. The error is raised when the row is validated rather than at the moment you merge, so a freshly merged row can look fine until you try to save it.

Captions across several channels

One caption serves every channel on the row, so the character counter under the box shows the strictest limit among them. Add X to a row that already has Instagram and the counter drops from 2,200 to 280. Go over it and the row fails validation.

Stories do not take a caption. A row whose channels are all stories shows This post type does not support captions in place of the box, and saves with an empty caption.

Save

Save draft in the footer saves the table. Rows with a problem are counted beside the button as N errors, and the save is refused until they are fixed. Hover the warning icon on a row to see what is wrong with it.

You can save at most 20 rows in one go.

Saved rows become drafts, one per row, on every channel that row was set to. They land in your planner straight away: the ones with a draft date sit on the calendar at that date and time marked Draft, and every draft shows up under Status → Drafts in the filter.

Closing the table with rows still in it asks first, and Discard throws the rows away along with any uploads still running.

Edit several posts in the same table

The table doubles as a bulk editor. Select posts on the planner and choose Edit in the bar that appears. The same table opens as Edit posts with your posts in it, and the button reads Save changes. Posts that were scheduled stay scheduled. Planoly refuses the selection when the posts' media differs from one channel to another.
