Upload at the highest quality

There is no quality setting to switch on. Planoly's settings cover your account, notifications, workspaces, and billing. What reaches the platform is decided by the file you add and the surface you add it on.

Add media on the web when resolution matters

The web uploader keeps an image's pixel dimensions. It compresses to hit the channel's file-size target and reaches that target on quality alone.

The mobile app is stricter. Any image whose longer side is over 2,048 pixels is resized down to 2,048 and saved as JPEG at 80% quality, and HEIC or HEIF photos are converted to JPEG whatever their size.

So the same photo comes out of the web uploader at its full size and out of the app at 2,048 pixels on its longer side. For a post where sharpness matters, add the media on the web.

What happens to an image

• An image already under the target is left alone. No re-encode at all.
• The output is JPEG, whatever went in. A PNG with transparency flattens to white.
• GIF and SVG files are never compressed.
• One pixel rule exists. A TikTok photo carousel image is fitted to 1080 x 1920 for portrait, or 1920 x 1080 for anything else.

What happens to a video

Your browser sends the video as it is, with no compression in the page.

After it arrives, Planoly re-encodes every video once: H.264 at CRF 18, AAC audio at 128 kbps in stereo, in an MP4. The encode does not resize the picture and does not force the pixel format, so a 4K clip stays 4K. That re-encoded MP4 is the file handed to the platform when the post publishes.

The mobile app uploads videos untouched, and they go through the same server-side encode.

What Planoly sends to each platform

For most posts, the platform receives the stored file — the same one you uploaded, after any compression above.

Two exceptions:

• Videos are sent as the re-encoded MP4.
• Pinterest images are sent through a copy no wider than 1,600 pixels, saved as JPEG. Pinterest fetches the image itself while creating the Pin and gives up if the fetch runs long, so a multi-megabyte original fails the publish outright.

Reminder posts

When you publish a reminder yourself, Planoly saves the stored file to your device and you upload it in the platform's own app. That is the same file described above, not your original camera roll copy, so uploading on the web still pays off.

Give a post the best chance

1. Add the media on the web.
2. Export under the channel's file-size target so the file passes through with no re-encode.
3. Export a large PNG as JPEG yourself. Over the target it is converted anyway, and its transparency flattens to white in the process.
4. Match the channel's aspect ratio. Cropping to fit later costs pixels, and an out-of-range ratio blocks the auto-post. The limits are in Media requirements for auto-post.
5. Do not re-save a file that has already been compressed. Each pass loses more.
