Set up the Planoly MCP
Connect the Planoly MCP to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini and your AI assistant can plan, write, schedule, reply, automate, and report on your social media, all from one chat.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a secure connector between your AI assistant and your Planoly account. Once it is connected, you ask in plain language and the assistant works inside your workspaces: your channels, media library, posts, Inbox, automations, and analytics.
The MCP endpoint is https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp.
Set it up
From inside Planoly (fastest)
- On the web, select the Claude or ChatGPT avatar in the top bar, next to your channel icons.
- On mobile, open Profile, then Integrations, and choose Claude or ChatGPT.
The dialog walks through Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, and Gemini, and copies the URL or command for you.
Claude
- Open Planoly in Claude's connector directory at claude.ai/directory/planoly.
- Select Connect, then sign in with your Planoly account.
- Try asking: "Give me some ideas of what I can do with my Planoly connection."
One Claude connection covers Claude chat and Cowork.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it Planoly and, under Connection, paste
https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp. - Review the risk warning, check I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.
- Sign in with your Planoly account when prompted.
- Try asking: "Give me some ideas of what I can do with my Planoly connection."
Claude Code
Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http planoly https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp
Then run /mcp, select planoly, choose Authenticate, sign in to Planoly, and select Allow.
Gemini CLI
Run this in your terminal:
gemini mcp add planoly https://mcp.planoly.com/mcp --transport http
Start Gemini, run /mcp to check the status and authenticate, then sign in to Planoly and approve the connection.
How access works
You sign in with OAuth, so your password is never shared with the assistant. The connection is tied to your Planoly user and reaches every workspace you belong to. Each request names the workspace it acts on, and a workspace you don't belong to is refused.
You approve before anything goes out. Tools that create, change, send, or delete something are marked so your AI client asks you first. How that prompt looks depends on the client.
A few actions reach real people right away, so the assistant confirms the details with you before it runs them:
- Inbox replies go to Instagram immediately and can't be unsent. The assistant shows you the exact words and who will receive them first.
- Automations are saved paused. They only start sending DMs after you turn them on.
What the assistant can't do: connect or disconnect your social channels, or cancel or change your plan. Those stay with you in Planoly.
Some tools need a paid plan, including the media library, analytics, shareable report links, TikTok trending sounds, and Instagram product tagging. On an unpaid plan, those tools return a message asking you to upgrade. Drafting and scheduling posts don't need a paid plan.
What you can do with it
You never pick a tool yourself. Ask in plain language and the assistant chooses the right one.
Create and schedule posts
- Post across channels. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Threads can auto-publish. X can be scheduled as reminders.
- Every Instagram format. Grid posts, carousels, reels, and stories, with user and location tags, collaborators, a custom cover, and a first comment.
- Tailor each channel. One post can carry a different caption or crop per platform, like a 9:16 cut for the reel and a square for the feed.
- Schedule smarter. Schedule, reschedule, or unschedule, including at your Instagram Best Time slots.
- Work in batches. Turn a folder in your media library into a week of drafts in one message.
- Trial reels. Show a reel to non-followers first. Share it to followers yourself, or let Instagram share it if it performs well in its first 72 hours. Available to public accounts with at least 200 followers.
- Reels tab only. Publish a reel without placing it on your main grid.
- Pinterest boards. The assistant lists your boards so each pin lands on the right one.
Media library
- Browse media, notes, links, and folders, and organize them into folders.
- Bring in designs from an approved link, such as a Canva export, or upload a file from your computer.
- Media preview. The assistant can look at a photo, carousel slide, or video cover to describe it, compare covers, or write a caption that matches.
Sounds, tags, and shopping
- Instagram sounds. Search Instagram's audio catalog, or browse what's trending, and attach a real sound to a reel. Needs an Instagram Business or Creator account connected through Facebook.
- Browse TikTok trending sounds and attach one to a TikTok post.
- Find Instagram location tags and products from your Instagram Shop to tag.
Inbox
- See what's waiting: unread DMs and comments, or everything assigned to one teammate.
- Search conversations by name, handle, or message text.
- Reply with a DM, a public comment, or a private reply, including your saved replies.
- Triage in bulk: mark read, close, assign, and add or remove labels. Create and manage labels too.
Instagram's messaging rules still apply. A DM can only be sent within Instagram's messaging window, which is 24 hours after the person's last message, or 7 days when the human-agent tag applies.
Automations
- Build Instagram auto-DMs that fire when someone comments a keyword on a post, replies to a story, DMs you a keyword, or mentions you in their story.
- Add an opening message with a button, link buttons, media, cards, and rotating public replies under the comment.
- Pause, edit, or delete automations, and see how many people each one reached and how many opened it.
Analytics and reporting
- Instagram: account analytics, post performance, and a shareable, read-only report link that expires after 14 days. Needs an Instagram Business or Creator account.
- TikTok: views, engagement, follows, follower demographics, and recent post results for the last 60 days.
- Pinterest: impressions, saves, pin clicks, outbound clicks, and top pins for the last 90 days.
- LinkedIn: views, engagement, and follows for your company page or profile, plus posts published through Planoly, for up to 90 days.
TikTok, Pinterest, and LinkedIn analytics need an account connected for auto-publishing, not reminders only.
Inspiration
- See what any public Instagram Business or Creator account has been posting.
- Browse trending TikTok and Instagram sounds.
Team, account, and help
- See who's in a workspace, so you can assign Inbox conversations.
- Check your plan, renewal date, and billing details. To cancel or change your plan, the assistant sends you to your billing settings.
- Search the Planoly Help Center for answers without leaving the chat.
Prompts to try
Plan and post
"Find my Canva design called '[name]' in my Planoly library and create an Instagram grid post with it. Write a caption under 150 words with 3 hashtags. Save it as a draft for my review."
"Open the folder '[folder name]' in my Planoly library. Create an Instagram draft for each image with a short caption. Show me the list, then schedule them one per weekday at 9am starting next Monday."
"Turn my draft reel '[name]' into a trial reel with a trending sound, and let Instagram share it to my followers if it performs well."
"Cross-post my newest draft to Pinterest on my '[board name]' board and to LinkedIn with a more professional caption."
Inbox
"What's waiting for me in my Planoly Inbox? Summarize unread DMs and comments and draft replies for my review."
"Find every comment asking about shipping this week, label them 'Shipping', and reply with my saved reply."
Automations
"Set up an automation on my next reel: when someone comments 'GUIDE', DM them a link to my free guide. Keep it paused so I can review it."
"Which of my automations sent the most DMs, and how many people opened them?"
Analytics
"Pull my Instagram analytics for the last 30 days, show my top 5 posts and what they have in common, and generate a shareable report link."
"Compare how my TikTok, Pinterest, and LinkedIn did over the last 30 days. Where should I spend more time?"
Inspiration
"Look at what @[account] posted recently and give me five ideas I could adapt for my brand."
Frequently asked questions
Where do I use this?
In your AI chat window. Everything the assistant creates or changes shows up in Planoly right away.
Will the assistant reply to my customers or followers on its own?
No. Before any Inbox reply goes out, the assistant shows you the exact message and who will receive it. New automations are saved paused and only start sending once you turn them on.
Why can't the assistant reply to an older DM?
Instagram only allows a reply within its messaging window: 24 hours after the person's last message, or 7 days when the human-agent tag applies. After that, the conversation stays in your Inbox, but a new DM can't be sent.
Why don't I see analytics for TikTok, Pinterest, or LinkedIn?
Those analytics need the account connected for auto-publishing, not reminders only. TikTok shares the last 60 days, and Pinterest and LinkedIn share up to 90 days.
Does this replace Planoly's AI Caption Writer?
No. The AI Caption Writer in the post builder works exactly as it did. The MCP is separate, and you talk to it from your AI assistant.
Does it work with the mobile app?
Yes. The connection is to your Planoly account, not one device, so anything the assistant creates or edits shows up everywhere you use Planoly.
Do I need to reconnect my social channels?
No. The MCP uses the channels already linked to your workspaces. If an automation or sound needs a permission your account hasn't granted, the assistant gives you a link to reconnect that account.
