Drag and drop on the calendar

Dragging changes when a post goes out. Drag it from the left panel onto a date, or from one date on the calendar to another.

Drag a post onto the calendar

1. In the left panel, pick up a post. On a touch screen, hold it for a moment first.
2. Drag it over the calendar. The day cell or time slot under your cursor is the target.
3. Release.

What happens next depends on the calendar view, set from Month, Week, and Day in the toolbar.

Month view opens a Select Time dialog. The day is fixed to the one you dropped on, and you pick a time from 15-minute slots. If the post already had a time, that time is carried over. Select Save.

Week and Day view apply the drop straight away, using the time slot you released on. Planoly confirms with Date updated.

Moving a post already on the calendar

Drag the post from one date to another. Month view asks for a time the same way; Week and Day view move it immediately.

The whole post moves. Every channel in it gets the date you dropped on, replacing any per-channel times you had set.

Instagram grid view is the exception. Drag a post that has other channels from there, and when you select Save in the Select Time dialog Planoly asks Save for all?, offering Save Instagram Only and Save On All.

Dragging schedules the post

A draft you drop on the calendar comes back Scheduled. It is armed to publish or to send its reminder at that time, without a second step.

Planoly does not re-run the post builder's content checks on a drag, so a draft that is missing something an auto-post channel needs can be scheduled this way. Open the post and check it if you are not sure it is finished.

Placeholders are the exception. Dragging one moves its date and nothing else — a placeholder never publishes. See Use placeholders.

What cannot be dragged

In List view and Gallery view, published, failed, and partially published posts do not pick up at all.

On the calendar, a published or partly published post looks like it moves and then snaps back to where it was. A partly published post carries channels that already went out, so its remaining channels are handled from inside the post.

In Instagram grid view, only undated drafts can be dragged. Dated drafts and scheduled posts sit in a section ordered by their dates, so to move one, change its date. Dragging within the grid reorders it rather than scheduling anything — see Plan your Instagram grid.

Dates Planoly will not accept

A post cannot land in the past. In Month view past days are not drop targets and the post returns to the panel. In Week and Day view Planoly refuses the drop and tells you the date must be at least 5 minutes in the future.

The furthest ahead you can schedule is a year.

Suggested time slots

If your calendar shows Quick Schedule slots — the empty pills carrying a time — you can drop a post straight onto one. That opens the Select Time dialog at the slot's time in any view.

On mobile

Dragging on the calendar is a web feature. In the Planoly app you change a post's date by opening it. The app's Instagram grid does support dragging: press and hold an undated draft to reorder it.
