Link and auto-post to LinkedIn

LinkedIn auto-posts from the web app and the mobile app once the channel is linked. Planoly publishes to your personal profile or to a company Page you administer. You pick which one when you link.

Link LinkedIn

1. Open Calendar and select the LinkedIn avatar in the channel row at the top right. If it is not in the row, select + to see the rest.
2. Choose Link Account.
3. Sign in to LinkedIn and accept the permissions. Planoly asks for your basic profile, permission to post as you, permission to post as your Pages, and Page administration.
4. Under Select a LinkedIn page, pick one account and choose Connect. You return to the page you started from.

The list puts your personal profile first, labelled Personal Profile. Below it sit the Pages where LinkedIn lists you as an administrator or content administrator, each labelled Organization.

On mobile, tap your avatar, tap Manage, open the workspace, tap the LinkedIn row, and choose Link account. LinkedIn's sign-in and the same account list open in an in-app browser.

Schedule a LinkedIn post

1. Select Create Post, then add LinkedIn to the post.
2. Add your media, or leave the post as text.
3. Write your caption. It allows 3,000 characters and 30 hashtags.
4. Under Posting method, choose Auto-post.
5. Pick a date and time at least 10 minutes ahead, then schedule the post.

What a LinkedIn post carries

LinkedIn has one post type. The tab reads Page Post whether you linked a profile or a Page.

• Text on its own, one image, one video, or up to 20 images.
• A video publishes on its own. Planoly stops you scheduling a multi-item post that contains one.
• A caption with hashtags. There is no first comment, location, collaborator, cover photo, or link field on the LinkedIn tab. Put a URL in the caption.
• No audience setting. Every post goes to the main feed as public.

Limits

Planoly checks these before it will schedule a LinkedIn auto-post.

• Caption: 3,000 characters, 30 hashtags.
• Media: up to 20 images, or one video.
• Images: .jpg, .png, or .gif.
• Video: .mp4, 3 seconds to 30 minutes, 500 MB or less.

Planoly does not check aspect ratio or dimensions on LinkedIn media. The LinkedIn rows in Media requirements for auto-post list the same figures alongside the other networks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I post to LinkedIn without an image or video?

Yes. A caption on its own is a post.

My company Page is not in the list. Why?

Planoly lists the Pages where LinkedIn records you as an administrator or content administrator. You need one of those roles on the Page before it appears. Once you have it, choose Refresh Channel Connection on the LinkedIn avatar and pick the Page.

Why does Planoly ask me to reconnect LinkedIn?

LinkedIn access expires, and Planoly renews it in the background before it does. When renewal fails for good, the channel shows as expired: the LinkedIn avatar in the channel row turns to its error state and its tooltip reads Your LinkedIn connection expired. Click to reconnect., and on the LinkedIn tab Auto-post is locked until you reconnect. Reminder mode keeps working in the meantime. When a scheduled post reaches LinkedIn on a revoked token, the failed-post notification reads Your LinkedIn connection has been invalidated. Please reconnect your account. Select the LinkedIn avatar and choose Refresh Channel Connection to sign in again. Refresh a channel connection has the steps.

Can I give LinkedIn a different caption from the other channels in the same post?

Yes. Add the channels to one post and select each channel's tab to write its own caption and swap its media. Under scheduling, Customize per channel also lets each channel go out at its own time.

What happens if I unlink LinkedIn?

Unlink Account switches the channel to reminder-only and every scheduled LinkedIn auto-post becomes a reminder. To sign in with a different account and keep auto-posting, use Refresh Channel Connection instead.
