Link and auto-post to Facebook

Facebook auto-posts to a Facebook Page from the web app and the mobile app once the channel is linked. Planoly publishes to Pages only. Personal profiles and groups are not offered.

Link a Facebook Page

1. Open Calendar and select the Facebook avatar in the channel row at the top right. Facebook is in the row from the first day as a reminder-only channel. The avatar is also in the workspace's Channels column under Manage workspaces.
2. Choose Link Account.
3. Planoly sends you to Facebook. Sign in and accept the permissions.
4. Back in Planoly, a Select a Facebook page screen lists the Pages Meta handed back. Pick one and select Connect. You return to the page you started from.

Planoly asks Facebook for Page permissions: to list your Pages, read Page content and engagement, publish posts, and manage Page metadata. It also asks for business management so Pages held in a Business Portfolio show up in the list.

Linking a Facebook Page is separate from linking Instagram through Facebook. That connection is for tagging and Instagram analytics and is covered in Link Instagram to a Facebook Business page.

On mobile, open the Facebook channel's actions and tap Link account. The same Facebook screens open in an in-app browser.

Schedule a Facebook post

1. Select Create Post, then add Facebook to the post.
2. The Facebook tab opens as a Page Post. For a Reel or a Story, select the tab and pick the post type from its menu. If media is already attached, a Transfer media? dialog asks whether to carry it over.
3. Add your media. A Page Post takes up to 10 items, or none at all. A Reel takes one video. A Story takes one image or one video.
4. Write your caption. A Page Post allows 10,000 characters and a Reel 1,500. A Story carries no caption.
5. Under Posting method, choose Auto-post.
6. Pick a date and time at least 10 minutes ahead, then schedule the post.

Facebook post types

• Page Post. Text on its own, one image, one video, or a carousel of up to 10 images. A carousel is images only. A video publishes on its own, and Planoly stops you scheduling a carousel that contains one.
• Reel. One video and a caption.
• Story. One image or one video, with no caption. The caption box stays on the Story tab as a note to yourself, and a help icon next to it says the text will not be published.

When a Page Post or a Reel carries exactly one video, a Cover photo tool appears in the caption toolbar. Once a cover is set, a banner recommends a 9:16 image to avoid cropping. Add a cover photo to a video walks through it.

There is no first comment, location, collaborator, or link field on a Facebook post.

Limits

Planoly checks these before it will schedule a Facebook auto-post.

• Page Post: 10,000-character caption, 30 hashtags, up to 10 media items.
• Reel: 1,500-character caption, 30 hashtags, one video.
• Story: one image or one video.

Planoly does not check video length or aspect ratio on Facebook media. The Facebook rows in Media requirements for auto-post list the same figures alongside the other networks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I post to my personal profile or to a Facebook group?

No. The picker lists the Pages your Facebook account manages, and Planoly publishes to the Page you picked.

Can I connect two Facebook Pages to one workspace?

No. Each workspace has one Facebook channel. To switch Pages, select the Facebook avatar and choose Refresh Channel Connection.

Do I need to re-link Facebook every few months?

No. Facebook Page tokens have no expiry date, so the channel stays linked until Facebook revokes it, for example when Planoly's permissions are removed in your Facebook settings. A post that hits a revoked token fails with Your Facebook connection has been invalidated. Please reconnect your account. Select the Facebook avatar and choose Refresh Channel Connection to sign in again.

Can I put a video in a carousel?

No. Facebook carousels are images only. Post the video on its own.

Can I share a link?

There is no link field on the Facebook tab. Put the URL in the caption.

Can I give Facebook a different caption from the other channels in the same post?

Yes. Add the channels to one post and select each channel's tab to write its own caption, swap its media, and set its own options. Under scheduling, Customize per channel also lets each channel go out at its own time.

What happens if I unlink the Page?

The channel switches to reminder-only and every scheduled Facebook post becomes a reminder notification. To sign in with a different Page and keep your scheduled posts, use Refresh Channel Connection instead of Unlink Account.

Does Planoly show Facebook analytics?

No. Analytics covers Instagram and Pinterest.
