Save Instagram user groups

A user group is a named list of Instagram usernames saved to the workspace. Apply one and every username in it is tagged on the media you are looking at. Groups live inside the tagging tool, alongside the tags themselves.

Requirements

• An Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook page. A reminder-only Instagram channel cannot tag people.
• Media on the post. The tool stays disabled until you add a photo or video.

Groups are not gated by plan, and every member of the workspace shares the same set.

Create a group

1. Open a post, select the Instagram channel tab, and add your media.
2. In the caption tools, select Tag people.
3. Stay on the Add usernames tab and select Create group under User groups.
4. Give it a Group name.
5. Under Usernames, type or paste usernames separated by spaces, commas, or new lines. The counter beside the field tracks how many you have.
6. Select Save.

A group holds up to 20 usernames. Names are lowercased, stripped to letters, numbers, periods, and underscores, and de-duplicated when the group is saved; the counter shows the resulting number as you type.

Apply a group

Open Tag people on the media you want tagged, then select Apply on the group. Planoly places a tag for each username and spreads them across the media. Select Save tags when you are done.

Applying a group skips usernames already tagged on that media. If the group has more names than the media has room for, the ones that fit are added and a message tells you how many were left out.

Limits

• 20 user tags per photo or video
• 20 user tags per post, counted across every item in a carousel
• 20 usernames per group

The panel shows how many slots are left on the media you are looking at.

Edit or delete a group

Select the edit control beside a group to reopen it. Change the name or the usernames and select Save, or select Delete to remove the group. Deleting a group does not remove tags already saved on a post.

Groups in the mobile app

Open a post, select the Instagram channel, and tap Tag people. Tap Tag from group to open USER GROUPS, then tap Apply on the one you want. The plus in the top right creates a new group. Each row has an edit control that opens the group; Delete is inside it.

Where tagging works

Tagging people is an Instagram feature. No other network in Planoly offers it, so a user group has no effect on a Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Threads, X, or YouTube post.

User tagging is unavailable on a video inside a carousel, an Instagram restriction the tool states when you open it on one.
