Tag Instagram products
Tag products from your approved Instagram Shopping catalog onto the media in an Instagram post or reel.
Updated
On this page
Product tagging pins items from your Instagram Shopping catalog onto the media in a post. It is an Instagram-only feature.
Requirements
- A paid plan, or an active free trial. If you are not the workspace owner, the owner has to upgrade.
- An Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook page. A reminder-only channel cannot tag products.
- An approved Instagram Shop with at least one catalog.
- Admin access in the business manager that owns the shop.
- Media on the post. The tool stays disabled until you add a photo or video.
Where it works
| Instagram post type | Product tagging |
|---|---|
| Post/Reel | Yes |
| Reel | Yes |
| Story | No |
Tag products
- Open a post, select the Instagram channel tab, and add your media.
- In the caption tools, select Tag products.
- Select the image or video in the carousel that you want to tag.
- Select a point on the media, then pick the product from your catalog. Use the search field to narrow the list.
- Repeat for the rest of your products and media.
- Select Save tags.
Finish the post, then select Save as draft or Schedule post.
Tag limits
- Up to 5 product tags per image or video
- Up to 20 product tags per post
The Tagged Products heading counts tags on the image you are looking at. The panel footer tracks both limits as you go — products left for the post, and products left for that image.
If you see "No Shops Approved"
Planner reads the catalogs Instagram exposes for your account. If none come back, the panel shows No Shops Approved with a link to Set up Instagram Shopping in Meta Commerce Manager. Shop approval and catalog permissions are handled by Meta, not by Planoly.
Mobile
Product tagging is also available in the mobile app, under the same channel tools.
