Set up Instagram Shopping

What Instagram Shopping needs on Meta's side, and what your Instagram channel needs in Planoly before product tags appear.

On this page

Instagram Shopping is set up on Meta's side. Planoly reads the catalogs Instagram already exposes for your account and lets you tag products from them.

Set up the shop in Commerce Manager

Open Meta Commerce Manager and follow Meta's setup there. Eligibility, supported markets, catalogs, and shop approval are all Meta's. Planoly's only part in it is the link out: there is no shop setup step here to complete, and Planoly cannot see or change where a shop sits in review.

What Planoly needs

Once Meta has approved the shop, product tagging needs two things here.

  • An Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook page, connected to your workspace as a live channel. A reminder-only Instagram channel cannot tag products.
  • A paid plan, or an active free trial. If you are not the workspace owner, the owner has to upgrade.

If your Instagram channel is not linked to a Facebook page, opening Tag products shows a panel titled Update Instagram account to TAG PRODUCTS. Link a Facebook Business page to the account, then select Activate in that panel to refresh what Planoly can do with the channel.

Check the connection

  1. Open a post and select the Instagram channel tab.
  2. Add a photo or video.
  3. In the caption tools, select Tag products.

Your approved catalogs appear in the panel. Planoly asks Instagram for them each time you open the tool, so a shop approved a minute ago shows up without reconnecting anything.

If you see "No Shops Approved"

The panel shows No Shops Approved when Instagram returns no catalogs for the account. That means the shop or its catalog is not approved and connected on Meta's side yet. The button under the message opens Commerce Manager.

Then tag products

With a catalog showing, see Tag Instagram products for placing tags and the per-post limits.
