Create content with Canva

Canva is one of the media sources in the post builder. Picking it opens a blank Canva design sized for the channel you are posting to, and saving in Canva sends the design back to Planoly as media on that post.

Before you start

Canva requires a paid plan; a free trial counts. If you are not the workspace owner, the owner has to upgrade.

Canva is a web feature. The mobile app's media sources are the camera roll, the camera, stock media, Dropbox, and Google Drive.

Connect Canva

The first time you pick Canva, Planoly sends you to Canva to authorize the connection and then back. After that the source is labelled Canva and goes straight to the editor.

To disconnect, open the media sources in a post, and select the unlink control on the Canva tile.

Design from a post

1. Open a post and select the channel tab you are designing for.
2. Add media and choose Canva as the source.
3. Design in Canva, then save.
4. Canva returns you to the post with the design attached as media.

Planoly saves the post as a draft before handing off, so the work is not lost while you are in Canva. The design lands on the channel tab you started from.

Then finish the post as usual and select Save as draft or Schedule post.

Canvas sizes

Planoly opens the Canva canvas at the size of the channel and post type you started from.

Canva is not offered on Facebook Reel, TikTok, or YouTube post types, or on an Instagram post with Exclude from main grid turned on. The source stays disabled there with the message Canva is not available for this post type.

Edit a design again

Media that came from Canva keeps its design. Open the media options on the tile and select Edit in Canva to reopen it, then save to replace the media on the post with the new version. The option is inactive on media that did not come from Canva.

What comes back

Planoly exports the design from Canva as a JPG, so what comes back is always one still image. A multi-page Canva design returns only its first page. To use video or several pages, download them from Canva and upload the files to Planoly.

Canva in bulk create

Bulk create offers the same Canva source. Your rows are kept while you are in Canva, and the finished design comes back as a new row. The canvas there is always 1080 x 1080, whichever channels the row is for.
