Scheduling and publishing

Post now

Publish a post the moment you finish it, from the web or the mobile app, on auto-post and reminder channels.

Updated

On this page

Post now publishes a post as soon as you select it. You do not pick a time, and the 10-minute minimum for scheduled posts does not apply. What happens next depends on each channel's posting method.

Post now on the web

  1. Open the post in the post builder.
  2. Select the caret next to Schedule post (Schedule posts when the post has more than one channel). On a post that is already scheduled, the button reads Save edits.
  3. Select Publish now.

Planoly saves the post, then publishes it. The builder closes and a publishing card shows the result for each channel.

Post now in the mobile app

  1. Open the post.
  2. Tap the arrow next to Schedule at the bottom of the screen. On a post that is already scheduled, the button reads Save edits.
  3. Tap Post now.

Planoly saves the post, then opens the Time to post screen. A post with a single reminder channel opens straight on that channel instead.

Auto-post channels

Planoly starts publishing right away. On the web, the publishing card shows each channel as it publishes or fails. In the app, a Publishing started message appears and the channel sits under PUBLISHING until it is live.

Reminder channels

Planoly cannot publish a reminder channel for you, so Post now hands it to you to publish by hand straight away. This covers any channel set to Reminder, X, and channels added as reminder-only.

From the mobile app

No notification is sent. The channel is ready to post right away: under READY TO POST on the Time to post screen, or already open if it is the post's only channel.

  1. Open the channel, if it is not open already.
  2. Select Copy & open. Planoly saves the media to your device, copies the caption, and opens the social app.
  3. Publish the post in that app.
  4. Return to Planoly. When it asks whether you posted, for example Did you post to Instagram?, select Yes, mark as posted.

If you leave without marking it posted, the channel stays ready to post and Planoly sends the usual reminder a little later.

From the web

Planoly sends the reminder immediately, the same push notification and email a scheduled reminder sends. The publishing card confirms it: Reminder sent to your phone, or Reminders sent to your phone for several reminder channels. On a post that also auto-posts to other channels, the reminder channel's row reads Sent to your phone. Open the notification on your phone and finish the post as described in Schedule reminders and post manually.

Selecting Publish now again within a few minutes does not send a second reminder.

When Post now is unavailable

Post now stays greyed out, with the reason under it, until the post is ready:

  • Add a channel to post: the post has no channels yet.
  • Add content to all channels: every channel needs media or a caption.
  • Fix validation errors first: a channel breaks one of its network's rules. The issues control in the footer lists them.
  • Uploading…: media is still uploading. On the web, Fix failed uploads first means an upload failed and needs replacing.

Channels that are already published, or already publishing, are skipped. A placeholder cannot be published.

Retry failed channels

When some channels of a post published and others failed, the caret sits next to Save edits. Publish now on the web, or Post now in the app, retries only the failed channels. It publishes the last saved version, so save any edits first.

Mark as Published

If you already posted it yourself outside Planoly, mark it instead of publishing it again. Mark as Published sits in the same menu as Post now. In the app it is also in the post's options menu at the top of the screen. It appears once the post is saved and has a channel that is not yet published.

Confirm in the dialog. Every unpublished channel is logged as posted without being published, and any pending schedule or reminder is canceled. The dialog warns that this cannot be undone.

Mark as Published is unavailable while you have unsaved edits, and while a channel is auto-posting.
