Link and auto-post to Threads

Link Threads to a workspace and schedule threads that publish automatically, with the caption, media, and timing limits Planoly checks.

Threads auto-posts from the web app and the mobile app once the channel is linked.

Link Threads

On the web:

  1. Select the Threads avatar in the channel row at the top right. Threads is always in the row, even before you link it.
  2. Choose Link Account.
  3. Sign in to Threads and grant Planoly access.

Planoly asks Threads for two permissions: reading your basic profile, and publishing content.

On mobile, tap your workspace avatar, tap Manage, open the workspace, then open the Threads row and tap Link account.

Schedule a Threads post

  1. Select Create Post, then add Threads to the post.
  2. Add media, or leave the post text-only. A Threads post needs a caption or media, and one of the two is enough.
  3. Write your caption.
  4. Under Posting method, choose Auto-post.
  5. Pick a date and time, then schedule the post.

Threads carries a caption and hashtags. There is no first comment, location, user tagging, product tagging, collaborator, or cover photo option on a Threads post — the Threads post type turns all of those off.

Posting method sits below the caption box, set here to Auto-post. The toolbar to the left of the counters holds only emoji, hashtags and the AI writer.

Limits

Planoly checks these before it will schedule a Threads auto-post.

  • Caption: 500 characters, 30 hashtags, and at most 5 links.
  • Media: up to 20 images, or up to 10 items when one of them is a video.
  • Video: 5 minutes or less, 1 GB or less, and no wider than 1920 pixels.
  • Images: 8 MB or less.
  • Aspect ratio: between 0.1:1 and 10:1.

Timing

A scheduled time has to be at least 10 minutes ahead, which leaves room for your media to finish processing. You cannot schedule more than a year in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I post to Threads without an image or video?

Yes. A caption on its own is enough.

Can I give Threads a different caption from the other channels in the same post?

Yes. Add the channels to one post and select each channel's tab to write its own caption, swap its media, and set its own options. Under scheduling, Customize per channel also lets each channel go out at its own time.

What happens if I turn auto-post off?

The channel switches to Reminder. Planoly notifies you at the scheduled time and you finish the post in the Threads app.
