Use the AI Caption Writer

Generate three caption options from a short brief, refine them, and apply them to the channels in your post.

The AI Caption Writer drafts captions from a short brief and applies them to the channels you pick. It runs on web and in the mobile app.

Before you start

The AI Caption Writer requires a paid plan; a free trial counts. If you are not the workspace owner, the owner has to upgrade.

You also need at least one channel on the post. Without a channel, the button is disabled.

Generate captions

  1. Select Create Post and add the channels you are planning for.
  2. In the caption tools, select Generate AI caption.
  3. The first time you use it, accept Planoly's AI Supplementary Terms and Terms of Use. Select I Accept. You only see this once.
  4. In the AI Caption Writer panel, fill in What is your post about? and Who is your target audience?. Both are required.
  5. Under This caption should sound like..., pick a voice: Basic, Professional, Witty, Casual, Bold, or Custom. Custom adds a field where you describe your own voice.
  6. Select Generate caption.
The panel opens beside the caption box, so the post you are writing stays visible.

You get three caption options back. Generation can take more than ten seconds.

Pick and refine a caption

  1. Select the caption you want.
  2. Edit the text directly, or use Shorten, Lengthen, or Rephrase on the selected caption.
  3. Select Choose your channels.
Shorten, Lengthen and Rephrase appear under the caption you picked and rewrite that one in place.

To start from a new brief, select Don't like what you see? Start over.

Apply the caption to channels

  1. Select each channel that should get this caption.
  2. Each selected channel shows its own editable copy of the caption. Adjust any of them.
  3. Select Add to post.
Each selected channel gets its own copy to edit, so you can trim one for a network without touching the others.

The captions drop into the matching channel tabs. Finish the post and select Save as draft or Schedule post.
