5 Takeaways from the 2024 Pinterest Trends Report

If any social media platform has insight into what trends are on the horizon, it’s Pinterest. 482 million people use Pinterest to plan their next big moment. With every search, Pin, and Post, they’re showing Pinterest what trends are about to emerge.

Because they love us, Pinterest combined those priceless trend predictions into a report called “Pinterest Predicts”. It’s a “not-yet-trending” report all about what people will shop, try, and buy in 2024.

Here’s What Pinterest Predicts For 2024

The report is split into categories:

Beauty

  • Blue beauty: The first trend in beauty is a throwback to the aquamarine makeup of the early 2000s (and also the 60s).
  • Head to glow: Skincare hype is no longer exclusive to the face, neck, and decolletage. Bodycare has entered the chat.
  • Make It Big: Minimalism out, maximalism in. No more slick backs and dainty necklaces. This year’s aesthetic will be big, loud, and proud.

Celebrations + Entertainment

  • Groovy nuptials: 70’s-inspired weddings and bachelorette festivities will have a comeback this year.
  • Jazz Revival: The vintage jazz aesthetic is having a major moment. Keep an eye out for dimly lit jazz clubs and jazz-inspired fits.

Fashion

  • Bow stacking: Bows are in, big-time, and not just for hair. Find them on clothing, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories as well.
  • Eclectic Grandpa: Embrace your inner grandpa-core with eccentric retro streetwear.

Food and beverage

  • Melty mashups: 2024 is the year of food fusion. Expect “pizza pot pie” and “gummy candy kabobs” at your next event.
  • Tropic like it’s hot: Expect food and drink menus to get a tropical makeover this year.

Financial services + Hobbies and Interests

  • Cute coins: Money will also be getting a makeover in 2024. Count on aesthetic piggy banks and customized credit cards.
  • Making a racket: Badminton will be the hottest sport of 2024.
  • Be jelly: Jellyfish are replacing last year’s mushroom craze. Keep an eye out for jelly vibes in everything from haircuts to lamps.
  • Give a scrap: DIYers are doing the planet a solid by taking on zero-waste projects.
  • Knockout workouts: Why work out when you could work out and learn self defense at the same time?
  • Aquatecture: Fish tanks, turtle terrariums, and bioactive vivariums will be a popular pastime this year.

Home

  • Kitschens: Eclectic kitchen decor is in. Look for green kitchen paint and retro pink appliances.
  • Western Gothic: Vintage americana, western gothic, country room decor is having a moment.
  • Cafécore: Coffee drinkers are bringing the café vibes home this year by  way of homemade coffee bars.
  • Hot Metals: Metal is trending in a variety of forms, from nail art to corsets.

Parenting + Travel

  • Inchstones: The more celebrations, the merrier. Parents are celebrating monthly milestones, baby naming ceremonies, first tooth parties, end of the school year parties, and much, much more.
  • Rest stops: 2024 travel vibe = slow living, relaxing staycations, and solo trips.
  • Dirt flirts: But relaxing travel isn’t the vibe for everyone. Off-roading adventures will also have their moment this year.

Wellbeing

  • Big talk: We don’t have time for small talk anymore. In 2024, we’re nurturing relationships by jumping straight to the hard-hitting questions.

Takeaways for creators

#1 Viral trends come from people owning what makes them unique

If current trends sparked emerging trends, this list would be filled with search terms about Stanley cups and mini Uggs, not eclectic grandpa-style clothing and bioactive vivariums.

Our Creator Report found that 56.9% of users don’t see going viral as a top priority.

Staying up to date with social media trends is important, but staying true to your brand and owning what makes you unique should be your #1 priority.

After all, every trend starts with someone living their truth and owning what makes them unique.

#2 Don’t be afraid to experiment

There’s always going to be a new trending aesthetic. Drastic vibe overalls are becoming more and more common. In 2024, we won’t just be pitting clean girl against mob wife. Social media users are into blue beauty, groovy nuptials, western gothic, jazz chique, and a whole lot more.

The biggest lesson here is to experiment with whatever makes you happy. You aren’t tied down to one aesthetic. You’re allowed to switch things up and try out a new vibe.

#3 Creators want to interact with brands that share their values

Social media trends are a reflection of what matters to us. For example, the trends in the Pinterest report show that social media users are embracing their inner child by exploring new aesthetics, taking care of their health and safety by implementing knockout workouts like jiu jitsu into their routines, and doing their part to prevent climate change by giving scraps a second life.

Instead of demonstrating their values through search trends, we found that creators are choosing to interact with brands that share their values.

#4 Prioritize authenticity

Today’s social media users don’t want to see a highlight reel of your life. They crave authentic connections.

Search trends like “hot seat questions”,  “deep questions to ask friends”, and “deep conversation starters” are trending because we are collectively tired of surface-level content. That’s part of why the internet rallied around Halley Kate when she received post-breakup hate. Most of us know how it feels to lose a first-love. Her authentic, genuine content reminded us of that.

#5 Slow down

2024 is the year we embrace slow-living. Inchstones aren’t just for babies– we’re celebrating all our wins this year, no matter how small. Hustle-culture is a relic of the past. We’re tired.

Instead of comparing yourself to creators who are growing faster than you are, focus on creating content that resonates with you and your audience and build a community that will stand the test of time.

And remember– you don’t have to maintain an extravagant lifestyle to create interesting content. And it’s okay to take a break. We all need a digital detox every once in a while.
