How to Set Up a Recurring Social Media Report Now That Claude Runs Scheduled Tasks

Last Updated:

A laptop showing the Planoly content calendar, with a chat window over it: a request to schedule five draft posts one per weekday at the best times, a reply that four were scheduled, and a request for top posts from the last month.

Claude just stopped making you choose between "chat" and "Cowork." As of September 16, 2026, they're one app, and that means the recurring, run-it-on-its-own task that used to feel like a power user's trick now lives right inside your regular Claude conversation. If you've been meaning to automate your weekly social media report and kept putting it off because it seemed technical, this is the week it stops being technical. And if you want the fuller picture of what Planoly is building on top of this shift, our full guide to MCP is a good place to start.

What Actually Changed on September 16

Before this update, Claude Chat handled quick questions and Cowork handled longer background jobs, and you had to pick the right app before you even started typing. Now Claude figures that out for you. One practical result: scheduled tasks, meaning something you describe once that Claude then runs automatically on a schedule, are available from inside the same window you already use every day. You describe the recurring job, Claude proposes a schedule, and it runs a Monday report, a weekly competitor check, or a monthly content audit without you opening a separate tool.

The rollout is staggered: Pro and Max plans get it first, over the coming weeks, with Team and Free following. If you don't see it yet, it's coming, not missing.

Why This Matters for Your Social Media Workflow

Every social media manager we've talked to about setting up AI tools says some version of the same thing: they know AI could handle the reporting and the digging through analytics, but the setup step is where they stall. Merging Chat and Cowork removes one whole layer of that setup: you no longer need to know which app a task belongs in before you can start one.

Why it works: the friction that stops most business owners from automating anything isn't the automation itself, it's the fifteen minutes of figuring out where to click first. Removing a decision point removes a drop-off point.

How to Set Up Your First Scheduled Report

1. Open a new Claude conversation and describe the report you want. Something as plain as "every Monday morning, tell me which of my Instagram and TikTok posts from last week got the most saves and reach" is enough to start.

Why it works: Claude's scheduled tasks are built to be described in plain language first; you don't need to know any special syntax to kick one off.

2. Let Claude ask its clarifying questions. It will typically confirm which accounts to pull from, how far back to look, and what format you want the summary in.

3. Pick your approval mode. For a report that only reads data and never posts anything, "report after" mode is fine, meaning Claude just delivers the summary without asking permission first. Save "approval required" mode for anything that could publish, delete, or send something on your behalf.

Why it works: this is the same "draft freely, send narrowly" principle that shows up everywhere AI assistants touch real accounts. Reading your own analytics is low-stakes. Publishing a post is not, and it should always ask first.

4. Confirm the schedule and let it run. Claude will show you the proposed frequency (weekly, monthly, whatever you asked for) before it goes live, and you can pause, edit, or delete it later from the Scheduled section of the app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this available on the free plan?

Scheduled tasks are rolling out to paid plans first (Pro, Max, and Team), with free access to follow. If you're on a free plan today, you can still ask Claude one-off questions about your performance, you just can't set them to repeat automatically yet.

Do I need to know how to code to set this up?

No. You describe what you want in plain sentences, the same way you'd talk to a person you just hired to help with reporting.

Is this the same thing as an MCP connector?

Not quite. A scheduled task is the "run this automatically" part. An MCP connector, like Planoly's, is what lets Claude actually reach into another tool, in this case your social accounts and analytics, to do the work the schedule calls for. You'll usually want both.

Does this work with my Planoly account?

Yes. Once Planoly's connector is set up in Claude, a scheduled task can pull your real post performance and use it to draft your next batch of content.

What happens if I don't like what Claude scheduled?

Nothing publishes without your review unless you've specifically set it up that way, and every scheduled task can be paused, edited, or deleted from the Scheduled section whenever you want.

TL;DR: Claude's Chat and Cowork merged on September 16, and scheduled tasks now live inside your everyday Claude conversation. Set one up this week: describe a report, pick "report after" mode for anything read-only, and let it run. What would you have Claude check on for you every Monday?
