Hi everyone, Adriana here! Today we’re breaking down how to convert your blog into a full-time business. When I started my blog back in 2011, I wish someone had been there to tell me a little more about the ways in which I could transform it into a business. I’ve been blogging for about eight years now (since 2011!), and thankfully it’s allowed me to gather insight, and a few great strategies + tips along the way. I want to share some with you today!
Below, we’re going to dive into 6 Steps to follow whenever you’re planning to take your blog from a hobby to a business. I’ll be explaining each of these six different steps for you, as well as sharing insight on how to approach them all. These steps will help you look at your blog/website in a new light, and dissect how you can transform it into a booming business.
6 Steps for Transforming Your Blog Into a Business
Choose Your Desired Niche (and stick to it!)
When you’re first launching your website, you want to make sure that it embodies everything you’re about and everything that you want to convey to your audience. Your niche will essentially be the staple of your brand. Make sure to brainstorm your desired niche – (i.e., what you’re best at and most passionate about), and stick to that! And remember… Consistency is Key. Your readers will continue to come back to your site time and time again when they trust you and know what they can expect to see from your content.
Secure Your Social Handles & Your Domain (on all platforms)
Setting your blog up as a business means having a streamlined name across all social platforms so that they coincide with your domain. You want to make it easy for brands and potential partners to find you by creating a cohesive name across all platforms. You’ll also want to file your business as an LLC eventually, and this will only help in streamlining and solidifying that process.
Map Out Your Business Plan (know what lies ahead)
Know what lies ahead by mapping out your business plan. Creating a set plan and timeline for everything that you want to accomplish can help you stay on top of all your goals. This will help you to gather an overall view of the tasks you have ahead so you can make sure you’re crossing them off in the weeks and months to come! (Be sure to reference our Goal Setting Worksheet too.)
Create an Editorial Calendar for Each Month (to stay on top of content)
An editorial calendar can help you to stay organized when it comes to planning out content for all of your social platforms. (It’s honestly been the biggest game changer for me!) Plan for the days, weeks, and months ahead with any of our monthly content calendars. Here you can easily view what you have planned, swap out content, or layer new content in!
Extra Additions (do you want to add a newsletter or little extras?)
Are you planning to add any little extras to your website like a newsletter or special perks? Make sure you have an idea of the things you want to incorporate into your website and have a set game plan for each. This will help you whenever you’re ready to launch them, and set them up for your business.
Spread the Word! (Network, Network, Network and share about your brand!)
Now for the fun part…spreading the word! The best thing you can do when you’re launching your blog into a business is to network as much as possible! You can start by attending blogger events, reaching out to brands that you want to work with and form partnerships with, and creating relationships with other people in your niche. This will help land you in the right network and in turn, lead you to endless campaign opportunities!
