Inspirational Entrepreneurs Share Touching Mother’s Day Quotes

PLANOLY, at its very core, has always surrounded the magic of motherhood. Our founder and Chief Creative Officer, Brandy Pham, created this company while juggling the responsibilities of becoming a full-time mom. It’s that balance, thoughtfulness, and determination that drove Brandy to start PLANOLY and millions of other moms to begin thriving businesses of their own.

The US alone has more than 12 million women-owned businesses. In fact, 40% of all US businesses are owned by women. To honor women everywhere, and to celebrate Mother’s Day, we wanted to highlight a few women who are changing the world with their work and reshaping future generations through their children.

Who are some of the mom-entrepreneurs you admire and why?

“I really admire April Garguilo, founder of Vintner’s Daughter. In my conversations with her, she talks about her desire to stay true to Vintner’s Daughter’s “North Star,” a set of guiding principles that helps her to confront various decisions (big and small) she makes on a day to day basis as an entrepreneur. It applies to building a business but also to how you approach your life and your role as a mother – it’s a reminder to maintain clarity on what truly matters.”

Ha Truong, Founder of Meet HaHa

This honest post from Ha’s Instagram had us stopped in our tracks recently.

“I know we should be thankful. And grateful. All those good, happy, uplifting thoughts because there’s so much more shit going on. But you guys… sometimes, it just sucks. And it’s okay. Why do we feel like we’re not allowed to feel the not-so-good stuff? That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate. It means we’re human.

This week was tough for us. I can count on my fingers the amount of times I’ve cried in the last decade because it’s not a normal thing for me (I don’t know why), but twice this week, Olivia and I hugged and cried for a good five minutes on my bed. Then, we talked.

I felt so overwhelmed and so alone in everything going on in our end. Personal matters + homeschool + making sure my kids are good + wondering how all my family and friends are doing + the future. From things like trying to teach a 6-year-old with a Mary Poppins kinda patience to having to live-stream a baby’s funeral a few weeks ago (not physically being able to be there for my family) alongside facing personal battles.

Taking breaks when we need to helps. Being able to text my closest people to say homeschool sucks and all of them understanding what I mean. Ice cream helps. Making stupid-funny videos with Olivia helps. Watching stupid-funny videos help. It takes a little seriousness away from life. P.S. How are ya’ll doing?”

Caitlin Kruse, Founder of The Mama Notes

This Instagram post from Caitlin also tugged at our heartstrings.

Have you guys seen this!? I’ve had it saved for a rainy day for a while, and given Flora just had her nails painted for the first time last week it seemed fitting since she asks for “nail polish!!” daily. Both of my girls (2 and 4.5) LOVED this. I was very impressed with how carefully Flora worked on her nails & how creative Piper got with her “customer ladies” ???? We used kids polish but watercolors or even markers would work!!”

Marianna Hewitt, Blogger and Co-Founder of Summer Fridays

Marianna Hewitt speaking about her biggest career moment to date with PLANOLY in 2017.

“I had no idea what I was doing when I started. Since I began, my photography and quality of content have evolved a lot. I found my voice and my brand identity after trying to figure out who I was in the space.

My biggest lesson has been not to be afraid to fail, create content and just see what sticks. You never know what your audience might like until you try it.

My proudest career highlights have been being photographed with my Mom for Allure magazine, coming out with a clothing collab that was worn by Jennifer Lopez and Gigi Hadid and getting to be my own boss and influence my readers around the world in a positive way.”

Michelle Tran, Founder of Neato Bonito

Michelle Tran spoke on her Instagram about staying organized while being a mom.

“When I have days where I have too much on my plate, I’ll sit down first thing in the morning to prioritize the day and work my way down. If I can’t get to everything I try not to sweat it – I’ll push it over to the next day if possible. Above all, my family comes first, and when I’m with them, I try to be as present as possible and bring my best self for them.”

April Gargiulo, Vintner’s Daughter

Who are some of the mom-entrepreneurs you admire and why?

I could write a list 100 names deep and still leave people off, so I will go with the first person to pop into my head, Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s fearlessness and heart-led leadership is very inspiring to me as a CEO and Founder.

Tell us about one of your most coveted rituals with your kids.

Taking a nature walk with my young girls is one of my most cherished moments of any week. Experiencing all the sounds, smells, and textures with them makes my heart full.

Joanna Vargas, Celebrity Facialist and Founder of Joanna Vargas Salons and Skin Care

Who are some of the mom-entrepreneurs you admire and why?

Rebecca Minkoff is someone I deeply admire because she is always good at juggling work and playtime with the kids. She has always been a creative force in the fashion world and doesn’t mind showing her kids that she has a passion for what she does. But she’s also good at spending family time and she always makes time for her friends.

Can you tell us about one of your most coveted rituals with your kids?

I love creating art journals with my kids. We do mixed-media style books together that are real-time capsules into what the kids were into at different ages. I love sitting and having that time to talk while we are making a mess!

Sending flowers on Mother’s Day often represents showing love and appreciation when you can’t be with them physically. Think of this blog as our way of sending flowers to mothers everywhere.

So enjoy your day, put your feet up, and spend some time with your loved ones. And if you can’t be with family and friends right now, just know that your PLANOLY fam is with you in spirit and we appreciate you!
