New Messaging App in Development

Word on the street is that Instagram is going after Snapchat with its latest app in development called Threads. It’s meant to act as a companion app to Instagram; so far, we know users can share their location, speed, and battery life with friends on the app. Within the app, you can also send messages with text, photos, and videos using various creative tools. The goal of this app is to communicate and share more with your “Close Friends” list on Instagram. This app is not yet released, but we will share more information when it comes out! Release date is TBD.

Debunking Photo Rumor

You may have seen a viral post shared by various influencers, public figures, and all types of users going around on the platform recently. It was lengthy, but in a nutshell, it stated that Instagram could use your photos, and that “everything you’ve ever posted…even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed will become public, and will give Instagram permission to use your photos and data in court cases in litigation against you.” By resharing the post, people were stating that Instagram was forbidden to use their content. However, none of this really matters because it was all a hoax. Hopefully, you didn’t fall for it, but we’re just glad the rumors have been laid to rest.

Horizontal Videos on IGTV

This updated feature has been available for a few months now, but we just wanted to reiterate it in case you didn’t know yet! IGTV is quickly rising and growing in popularity among Instagram users, so it’s best to stay up-to-date and ahead of the curve. Instagram decided to expand the creative options for IGTV by adding support for horizontal video viewing. This is a game-changer for creators and viewers; giving the option to upload vertical or horizontal content allows for more diverse content. Vertical videos work best for creators who want an “up-close-and-personal” feel (makeup tutorials or try-on hauls), while the horizontal format works best for high-motion content or multiple people in the frame. Check out this blog post to learn tips and tricks for how to use IGTV as a brand or influencer!

AR Effects for Instagram Stories

Instagram has started to dip its toes into the world of augmented reality with its brand new user-generated AR selfie filters. They’ve been creating and testing the new effects using its AR creation software, Sparks AR Studio. This is another way Instagram seems to be challenging Snapchat by upping their filter game. We love the diverse options to create more unique Instagram Stories with a futuristic vibe, so we’re all for it! Which filters are your favorites? If you noticed that you don’t have access to all of the AR features yet…don’t fret! They’ll roll out to everyone eventually, so try to stay patient. : )
