If you only post a trial now and then, the Instagram app is free and does the job. A scheduler starts to earn its place when trials become a regular part of your content calendar, and the right one is usually the tool you already plan the rest of your content in.

You've decided to test with trial reels, and now you're comparing tabs: does this tool even support trials, and how? Most comparison posts online are written by a vendor ranking itself first. This one sticks to what each option's own documentation says, as checked on October 23, 2026, and says plainly where a tool's page doesn't mention trials. For how Planoly handles it, see our [**trial reels help article**](https://www.planoly.com/help/scheduling-and-publishing/instagram-trial-reels?utm_source=planoly_blog\&utm_medium=blog_cta\&utm_campaign=best-tools-to-schedule-instagram-trial-reels\&utm_content=help_link).

## How We're Comparing

**1. Publishing.** Can it publish the trial for you, or schedule it in-app?

**2. Follower-share control.** Can you choose Manual or Auto sharing to followers?

**3. Grid placement.** Can you keep a reel off your main grid?

**4. Documented limits.** What eligibility or restrictions does the tool's own page state?

**5. Planning fit.** Does it sit next to the rest of your calendar?

Every scheduler on this list that supports trials relies on the same Meta API setting, which offers two sharing options: manual, or automatic if the trial performs well ([**Meta developer docs**](https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-platform/instagram-graph-api/reference/ig-user/media/)). So the differences are mostly about workflow, not what a trial can do.

**Why it works:** Comparing on shared criteria stops you from picking a tool for a feature every tool has.

## Can the Instagram App Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in April 2026 that Instagram built trial scheduling after people asked for it (as reported by [**Social Media Today**](https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/instagram-allows-creators-to-schedule-trial-reels/816549/)). It's free, and you get Instagram's own trial settings. The trade-off: you plan in the app, one post at a time, away from the rest of your calendar.

**Pick this if:** you run an occasional trial and don't use a scheduler.

## Can Meta Business Suite Schedule Trial Reels?

Its [**reels help page**](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/794942355314453) covers scheduling reels but lists no trial option. That doesn't prove it can't, so check the tool on your account.

## Can Planoly Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes. Upload one video, keep Posting method on Auto-post, open the Trial reel tool and pick Off, Manual or Auto. A separate "Where can this reel be seen?" setting lets you choose Reels tab only, with or without a trial. Planoly can't check eligibility ahead of time, so if Instagram doesn't accept a trial, the post fails and tells you why. The Trial reel tool works the same on every paid plan. Plans start at $14, $24 and $47 a month billed annually on our [**pricing page**](https://www.planoly.com/pricing?utm_source=planoly_blog\&utm_medium=blog_cta\&utm_campaign=best-tools-to-schedule-instagram-trial-reels\&utm_content=pricing_cta), and new subscribers get a 14-day free trial.

**Pick this if:** you already plan your grid and calendar in Planoly and want trials in the same view.

## Can Buffer Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes. [**Buffer's help page**](https://support.buffer.com/articles/scheduling-instagram-posts-reels-stories-and-notifications-3XA98S9Q5p) documents Off, Auto and Manual and requires a professional (Business or Creator) account. Because Instagram doesn't let schedulers check trial availability ahead of time, Buffer asks you to confirm trials are available on your account first.

**Pick this if:** Buffer is already your scheduler across several networks.

## Can Later Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes. [**Later's help page**](https://help.later.com/hc/en-us/articles/5023195813143-Schedule-Publish-Instagram-Reels) says, "Users with public Instagram profiles and 1,000+ followers can schedule Trial Reels directly in Later's Post Builder." That's higher than Instagram's 200-follower minimum for professional accounts.

**Pick this if:** you're on Later already and above 1,000 followers.

## Can Metricool Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes, as a "Trial Reel" content type with a "Share automatically with everyone" option ([**Metricool Help**](https://help.metricool.com/how-to-publish-instagram-trial-reels-in-metricool-q27tj)). The option always shows, and publishing fails if Instagram hasn't enabled trials for your account. Collaborators can't be added to a trial.

**Pick this if:** analytics across many networks is your priority and you already use Metricool.

## Can Planable Schedule Trial Reels?

Yes, through direct publishing only, with switches for auto-share after 72 hours and for showing on your profile feed ([**Planable Help**](https://help.planable.io/hc/en-us/articles/30752751863580-Instagram-Trial-Reels)).

**Pick this if:** you need client approvals before posts go live.

## Can Publer or Hootsuite Schedule Trial Reels?

[**Publer's blog**](https://publer.com/blog/best-tools-to-schedule-instagram-trial-reels/) says it supports trial scheduling; we didn't find the same detail on a Publer help page. Hootsuite's Instagram post and reel help page doesn't mention trial reels as of October 23, 2026, so ask Hootsuite directly if you use it.

**Why it works:** Saying "we don't know" is more useful than guessing, and it tells you exactly what to ask a sales rep.

## Which Should You Pick?

**1. Pick the Instagram app if** trials are occasional and you don't want another tool.

**2. Pick the scheduler you already use if** it documents trial support. Switching tools for one feature rarely pays off.

**3. Pick Planoly if** visual grid planning matters to you and you want trials, regular posts and grid placement in one place.

**4. Pick Buffer or Metricool if** you publish across many networks and Instagram is one of several.

**5. Pick Planable if** approvals are part of your workflow.

**Why it works:** Trial reel support is close to standard now, so your existing workflow is the strongest tiebreaker.

> **Pro tip**
>
> Whatever tool you choose, open the Instagram app first and check that you can see the Trial toggle on a new reel. Every scheduler depends on Instagram enabling trials for your account. In Planoly, the [**trial reels help article**](https://www.planoly.com/help/scheduling-and-publishing/instagram-trial-reels?utm_source=planoly_blog\&utm_medium=blog_cta\&utm_campaign=best-tools-to-schedule-instagram-trial-reels\&utm_content=pro_tip_link) explains what happens if Instagram doesn't accept a scheduled trial.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**What's the best tool to schedule trial reels?**

For occasional trials, the Instagram app. For regular trials, the scheduler you already plan in, as long as its help page documents trial support.

**Can Meta Business Suite schedule trial reels?**

Its reels help page doesn't list a trial option as of October 2026. Check the tool on your account.

**Why does Later say 1,000 followers when Instagram says 200?**

Instagram's 200 is for professional accounts. Later's help page states its own 1,000+ requirement, so go by each tool's page.

**Do all schedulers handle trials the same way?**

Mostly. They use the same Meta API setting with manual or automatic sharing. Differences are in grid placement, reporting and workflow.

## TL;DR

The Instagram app is free and fine for occasional trials. Buffer, Later, Metricool, Planable and Planoly all document trial scheduling; Publer says it supports them; Hootsuite's and Meta Business Suite's help pages don't mention trials. Choose the tool that fits how you already plan. Which tool is your content calendar living in right now?
